WorldWide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) is a worldwide movement linking visitors with organic farmers and growers to promote cultural and educational experiences based on trust and non-monetary exchange thereby helping to build a sustainable global community.
WWOOF aims to provide individuals from all around the world the opportunity:
- to experience organic growing and sustainable ways of living, and to lend a helping hand wherever needed;
- to connect with the earth, with yourself and with other like-minded people;
- to help the organic movement, which is often more labour intensive because it does not rely on artificial chemicals;
- to have an enriching experience with nature, land and culture.

WWOOFing at Longview Farm
Longview is still in the early stages as a permaculture smallholding and our funds are limited. That makes it the ideal place for anyone who likes helping with design, re-purposing objects, creating something from (almost) nothing and getting stuck in with new projects and people with building skills are especially welcome. Expect thoughtfulness around energy consumption to be a theme; for example only boiling enough water in the kettle as is necessary.

There are a fair amount of physical tasks to complete. We don’t expect peak fitness, but please be open and clear with us if you are physically impaired in any way. As life is fairly busy, we’re looking for motivated volunteers with energy and enthusiasm who will willingly pitch in with all aspects of life, including cooking, cleaning communal areas, washing up. As there are a lot of demands on our time, whilst being friendly and caring people, it would be hard for us to take volunteers who require a lot of looking after.

Since we started hosting we’ve taken all sorts of volunteers, but in 2021 we will be prioritising those who can stay for a longer period of time e.g. more than one month. We are also looking for those who have some level of skill, either with building or growing, or practical people who are truly enthusiastic and motivated to learn quickly. Please be willing to have a phone or video conversation with us before final agreements, as this will help clarify expectations and increase the chances of a successful exchange.
If you’re interested, join the wonderful charitable organisation that is WWOOF (it’s only £20 a year!) and look us up.
